Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio has unveiled Brook Stephens as the inaugural mentee for its “Behind The Mic Mentorship” initiative. Stephens is the Music Director and afternoon talent for three Leighton Broadcasting stations: Wild Country 99 (KZPK/St. Cloud), 97 KYCK (Grand Forks, ND), and KJ Country 96.5 (KJJK/Fergus Falls, MN).
Stephens also produces a Weekly Top 20 Countdown for the stations. Her notable experience spans 26 years, with awards from the CRS/Country Aircheck Awards. Additionally, Stephens is actively engaged with charitable organizations and supports local community activities.
The “Behind The Mic Mentorship” program is MIW’s annual endeavor aimed at bolstering the careers of US female radio personalities who have at least 3-5 years of on-air experience. As part of the mentorship, Stephens will receive one-on-one guidance from renowned radio personalities Amy Brown of The Bobby Bones Show and Women of iHeart Country, Elaina Smith of Nights with Elaina, and Christine Nagy from New York’s WLTW Morning Show. Stephens will also be able to attend NAB Show 2024 in Las Vegas.
MIW Board President Ruth Presslaff commented, “Response to the Behind the Mic opportunity was off the charts. Choosing just one winner was a very (very!) difficult decision. So all the more congratulations to Brook. Also, a huge and appreciative shout out to MIW Board Member Haley Jones, who poured so much time, dedication and expertise into creating and managing this program.”
Stephens added, “I have always wanted to sit at a table of this caliber, and I’m actually here. It doesn’t seem real yet. I’m just so incredibly honored!”
