NAPLES, FL, June 26, 2017 - The Mentoring & Inspiring Women in Radio (MIW) Group Executive Committee and Nielsen Music, a leading industry source for data-driven music solutions and insights, proudly announce the MIW-Nielsen Music Mentoring Program, a collaborative effort to open doors for women interested in management positions in music broadcast programming across the country.
The MIW Group has tracked the growth of women in management through the annual MIW Gender Analysis Report since 2004. There has been a slight increase in women general managers and sales managers; however, the percentage of women in programming has remained essentially flat for the past ten years, creating concern and prompting action from the MIW Group.
"Improving the number of women in programming has been on our radar for several years," said Ruth Presslaff, Founder and President of Presslaff Interactive Revenue and MIW Group executive committee member spearheading the MIW’s newest mentoring project. "With the generous support of Nielsen Music, the MIW Group is now keenly focused on the challenge of increasing the percentage of growth in this vitally important sector. We are so appreciative of Nielsen Music's backing in this endeavor."
The MIW-Nielsen Music Mentoring Program matches a female programming candidate with key mentors from both the MIW Radio Group and Nielsen Music to sharpen her programming and professional skills and further her career in music programming. The first MIW-Nielsen Music Programming mentee will receive a scholarship to attend the 2017 Radio Show, produced by RAB and NAB, in Austin, Texas where she will be officially introduced and mentored for the next 12 months.
"The Nielsen Music team is honored to join forces with MIW Radio Group on this mentorship program, which will provide a unique support network for women who aspire to take on one of the most difficult and demanding jobs in radio,” said Stephanie Friedman, Vice President of Radio, Nielsen Music. "This is such a special opportunity, and we're so excited to help shape the future for up-and-coming female radio programmers as well as get involved in the radio world in a way we never have before."
This mentorship opportunity is available to one female program director, assistant program director and/or music director from any music format. Interested candidates should click here or on the image above for an application form. The deadline for submitting completed applications is July 21, 2017.
The MIW-Nielsen Music Mentoring Program provides an additional mentoring opportunity beyond the ongoing and established MIW Group Mildred Carter Mentoring Program, which offers women in all divisions of radio broadcasting management advice, education and coveted access to leaders in radio broadcasting at the very highest level.
